Pacific Islands Development Bank seeking new members

9:06 am on 20 May 2008

The Pacific Islands Development Bank, a lending institution funded by the

Association of Pacific Island Legislatures, has again raised hopes that American Samoa will become a PIDB member.

The Saipan Tribune newspaper quotes PIDB president and chief executive officer, Aren Palik as saying that the bank is hoping to gain the membership of American Samoa, the Marshall Islands and Kiribati.

Both the Fono and Governor Togiola Tulafono support American Samoa's

participation.

Togiola said last year that becoming a PIDB member would open a financial avenue for local economic development.
