Samoa village banning workers of OF Nelson Company from disputed land regardless of court ruling

The village of Vailoa Palauli on Savai'i, has ignored a court ruling by imposing a ban on land which the Supreme Court says belongs to the O.F. Nelson Company.

Last month, the village council lost a legal battle with O.F. Nelson over its claim for more than four hundred hectares.

But the Samoa Observer reports that workers for O.F. Nelson have been warned in a public notice, issued by the chiefs of Vailoa Palauli, not to set foot on the land again.

The notice declares that O.F. Nelson has no land in the village.

The notice, in Samoan, says this decision was made following a village council meeting last month.
