Kadavu Council defeat has no bearing on Nawalowalo's Fiji GCC task work

Fiji's Great Council of Chiefs Taskforce chairman says not being re-elected as chairman of the Kadavu Provincial Council is a blessing.

Ratu Josateki Nawalowalo says that being replaced at the council's latest meeting in Suva has no bearing on his ongoing participation in the GCC task team.

Ratu Josateki, who has been council chairman for six years, was replaced by Ratu Varani Rayawa.

Ratu Josateki says the result comes as something of a relief.

"Perhaps it's just timely that I also give it up to someone else. And it's my deputy himself whose taken up the position. It gives me an opportunity to develop other business opportunities and take up other initiatives. To me, it's been a blessing."

Meanwhile, former SDL cabinet minister Isireli Leweniqila has been appointed the new chairman of the Macuata provincial council.

He replaces Tui Macuata Ratu Aisea Katonivere, who held the post for six years.
