Solomon Islands footballer off to the United States

Waitakere United's Solomon Islands striker Benjamin Totori leraves Auckland next week for a professional contract with Portland Timbers in the United States.

But the 22-year-old will return to join the O-League winners at the FIFA Club World Cup in Japan, unless he picks up a longer term contract.

Portland play in League One, a step below the Major League, but Totori says it's step up for him as he wants to play full time professionally.

The club's Chairman Rex Dawkins brokered the deal and says he's pleased Totori has secured this opportunity but also hopes he can return to play in Japan in December.

Totori is sure that United can improve on their Club Cup performance last year when they lost 3-1 to the Iranian champions Sepahan.
