The mayor of Tinian in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands has reduced the working hours of his employees to ensure that there's enough money to pay them until the end of the current fiscal year.

Mayor Jose San Nicolas has 129 full-time employees, including 41 who do not directly work for him but whose salaries are paid by his office.

These employees are assigned to resident departments on Tinian and fill "revenue-generating posts" such as immigration officers, customs officers, revenue and tax agents and labor officers.
