Fiji name strong side for Pacific Nation's Cup opener against Samoa

The Fijian rugby coach, Ilivasi Tabua, has named an experienced side for the opening Pacific Nations Cup game against Samoa in two weeks time.

Seventeen players who played for Fiji at last year's world cup have been retained.

New Zealand based winger, Michael Tagicakibau, breaks into the side along with Japan based backrow forward, Deryk Thomas.

Stormers Super-14 winger, Sireli Naqelevuki is expected to feature prominently in the midfield backs while France based Vilimoni Delasau will add speed to the side on the flanks.

The Fijian side start their preparations on Thursday.

The team forwards are - Graham Dewes, Sunia Koto, Kele Leawere, Wame Lewaravu, Semisi Naevo, Akapusi Qera, Jone Railomo, Aca Ratuva, Ifereimi Rawaqa, Vereniki Sauturaga, Viliame Seuseu, Alefoso Yalayalatabua, Netani Talei, Deryck Thomas

The backs are Filimoni Delasau, Vereniki Goneva, Maleli Kunavore, Waisea Luveniyali, Timoci Nagusa, Sireli Naqelevuki, Kameli Ratuvou, Jonetani Ralulu, Mosese Rauluni, Dan Rawaqa, Michael Tagicakibau, Aporosa Vata.
