The Chief Executive Office of Samoa Quality Broadcasting - the private company poised to take over government owned Samoa Broadcasting Corporation - says the new company will provide more independent news.

Galumalemana Faiesea Lei Sam Matafeo told the Samoa Observer SQB hopes to be more independent in its news service and be more involved in current affairs.

She said the company wants to improve on the content and also increase local productions.

Mrs Matafeo says one of their company's main objectives is to preserve the culture and make television more relevant to Samoans.

Galumalemana said SBC will be privatised once redundancy packages and signing of the purchase contract was completed.

She has confirmed that 15 employees at SBC have applied for redundancy.
