The eventual expansion of the football A-League to 12 teams could see the inclusion of a Pacific team.

Football Federation Australia chairman Frank Lowy publicly encouraged the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) to investigate an expanded A-League be welcomed into the competition.

Lowy has asked the Oceania Football Confederation to look at the prospect of creating a team of all the islands and if it happens they will be accommodated in the A League.

New Zealand already has a presence in the A-League with the Wellington Phoenix.

The Pacific football team will work the same as the Pacific Islanders Alliance Rugby union side where players are selected from Tonga, Samoa and Fiji.
