Rewa Provincial Council in Fiji will not change its stance on Charter

9:13 am on 4 June 2008

The Rewa Provincial Council in Fiji has dismissed pressure by the interim regime and says it will not change its stance on the proposed People's Charter.

Rewa chief Ro Filipe made the comment to Radio Fiji after the interim Prime Minister Commodore Frank Bainimarama warned that it would sack provincial council members who opposed the charter and the GCC task team report.

Commodore Bainimarama said Ro Filipe would be the first one to go.

However, the Rewa chief says the province's position on the two issues was well researched and discussed before a decision was taken.
