Flood warnings in Fiji's east

1:30 pm on 4 June 2008

There's a flash flood warning in place in Fiji's eastern division.

The warning has been issued for the Suva, Nausori, Navua and Tailevu areas.

Local media reports some roads and bridges in the area are already closed due to flooding.

The Fiji metservice director, Rajendra Prasad, says heavy rain will continue in these areas for the next two to three days.

"We only have a flash flood advice for the Navua Suva, Nausori, Tailevu corridor because of prolonged rain in that area. We have got a trough of low pressure affecting the central and eastern parts of Fiji. That's where the heavy rainfall has been confined to over the past two days."

Rajendra Prasad expects the rain to affect the eastern and central areas, but adds it may later on also spread to the western areas.
