A district court in Samoa has dismissed criminal charges relating to the death of a Kiribati man two years ago.

Two defendants were facing charges of dangerous driving causing the death of Ioane Pakaie but the charges were dropped because of lack of evidence.

The two had allegedly run their vehicle over the Kiribati man as he was crossing the main beach road in Apia after having a few drinks at a night club in town.

The case was dropped amid claims that the government was reluctant to provide funds to bring a key witness from Kiribati who was a colleague of the victim at the time of the fatal incident.
