Surprise changes in Niue's elections

Niue has new common roll members of Parliament.

In a surprise result in the weekend general elections, the Secretary of Justice, Togia Sioneholo, unseated the former High Commissioner to New Zealand, Hima Takelesi.

Two women candidates, Mahetoi Hekau and Esther Pavihi topped

the polls ahead of former sitting members Michael Jackson and Krypton Okesene.

In the main village of Alofi South the sitting member was soundly defeated by Dalton Tagelangi.

Niue has a 20 member Legislative assembly elected by 600 voters.
