New Fiji election supervisor on familiarisation visit

3:42 pm on 18 June 2008

Fiji's newly appointed Supervisor of Elections, New Zealander Felicity Heffernan, has met the Interim Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum behind close doors.

Mr Sayed-Khaiyum has told Radio Fiji the talks in Suva with her was only a familiarisation meeting as she is yet to officially start in her role.

He says he received her in his capacity as line minister for election.

Ms Heffernan was nominated after another New Zealand candidate, Maurice Coughlan, withdrew once it became known that he had been disbarred in New Zealand in the early 1990s.
