Leaders in CNMI's Rota consider nine-turbine wind farm

Leaders of Rota, in the Northern Mariana islands are considering a Guam firm's proposal to build a nine-turbine wind farm.

The Marianas Variety newspaper reports that GCE Corporation has proposed to build and operate the wind farm at no cost to the commonwealth or municipal governments.

The chairman of the House Committee on Public Utilities, Transportation and Communications said not a single penny will be spent by the Commonwealth Utilities Corporation.

He said that if a contract is signed soon, construction of the wind farm could begin in September.
