10:18 am on 2 July 2008

The National Agriculture, Trade and Cultural show in Solomon Islands opened yesterday in Honiara, and is believed to be one of the biggest the country has hosted.

The Acting Governor General and Speaker of Parliament Sir Peter Kenilorea opened the show, along with other government officials and participants manning more than 100 stalls until the show ends on July 11.

The SIBC reports the event has been timed to coincide with the country's 30th independence anniversary day on July 7.
