Outlining business opportunities on Guam will be a key aim of the US territory's Governor, Felix Camacho, who begins a six-day visit to New Zealand today.
The New Zealand Foreign Minister, Winston Peters, says the visit will consolidate links made during a New Zealand trade mission to Guam last October.
From 2010, the US is to move 8,000 marines and their families to Guam from Okinawa in Japan, spending 15 billion US dollars over five years in the process.
Mr Peters says New Zealand companies will not be able to bid for military contracts but hope to benefit by tendering for public sector and private works projects.
He says Guam's population will grow by 25 per cent during the expansion, and New Zealand is well placed to support business opportunities and assist with the environmental and sustainability challenges posed by the rapid development.
