10:22 am on 8 July 2008

A severely ill four-month-old girl has died on a flight from Fiji to India, which was diverted to Sydney.

A post-mortem will be carried out on the baby girl, who was one of a number of sick children being flown to India for specialist treatment.

The police say said the Air Pacific flight was forced to divert to Australia after the girl's death, and landed in Sydney.

The girl's body was taken to the Sydney Children's Hospital at Randwick.

The police say they don't know what killed the girl, but are not treating the death as suspicious.
