Samoa's parliament has considered in details a new tobacco control law which calls for restrictions on the sale and use of tobacco in public areas.

The plan is to restricts smoking in working places, public transport, restaurants, bars and night clubs.

Separate outside areas for smokers will be allowed for bars, restaurants, and night clubs.

The proposed legislation will impose a ban on the sale of tobacco to people under 21 years of age and prohibit the sale of single cigarette sticks instead of a whole packet.
