3:32 pm on 23 July 2008

The Regional Assistance Mission in Solomon Islands will tomorrow mark its fifth anniversary with sports and community activities in all provinces.

The mission arrived in July 2003 to restore law and order following years of violence on the island of Guadalcanal.

Dubravka Voloder reports

"The Mission says it decided to mark this year's birthday celebrations in all nine provinces of the country, as more than 80 percent of the people live in rural areas. It has organised games and competitions, such as sack races, coconut husking, singing, dancing and traditional feasts. Ramsi says the community day is a sign and recognition of the close and friendly cooperation between the mission and the government and people of Solomon Islands."
