SOPAC to launch new resource for disaster management

1:58 pm on 24 July 2008

The Pacific Islands Applied Geoscience Commission, or SOPAC, will launch the Pacific Disaster Net, which will provide answers to natural disaster questions and issues, in Nadi this evening.

SOPAC's risk advisor, Noud Leenders, says that the website will act as a platform to exchange information easily and instantly.

SOPAC says the site is a live encyclopedia which will be regularly updated by partners including UN agencies, the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Society, and SOPAC.

Mr Leenders says the website will be helpful not only to people who work with disasters in the Pacific but also to journalists, researchers and the general public.
