Premier of Niue arrives in NZ for talks

6:16 am on 28 July 2008

The Premier of Niue, Toke Talagi, arrives in New Zealand today for his first talks with the New Zealand Government since his election in June.

He will meet his New Zealand counterpart, Helen Clark, and ministers and officials involved in maintaining this country's special links with Niue.

Mr Talagi also intends meeting with the Niuean community to outline proposals to increase interaction between the island and the expatriate community.

Niue faces significant challenges to remain viable and Miss Clark says she is looking forward to discussing with the new Premier the best ways of helping Niue move ahead in a sustainable way.
