Another new political party established in Samoa

A new political party has been established in Samoa by several members of the NGO opposing switching the controversial road switch law PASS.

The People's party or TPP says that the rejection by the government of the PASS petition against the road side switch is the main reason behind the forming of the party.

The interim chairman for the party's steering committee who was also the leader for PASS, Tole'afoa Solomona To'ailoa, says the new political party will be formalised in a public convention to be held in September.

Tole'afoa says the general feeling amongst the people as a result of the two peaceful protests against the land transport system is that there needs to be a change of government.

But he says the party was not established under the umbrella of PASS which is a non-political group.

Tole'afoa Solomona has confirmed he will run in the 2011 general

election for the territorial constituency of Vaimauga East.

The current parliamentary seat is taken by the Minister of Works,

Transport, and Infrastructure, Tuisugaletaua Sofara Aveau.
