A new politcal party that's just been formed in Samoa is calling on interested people to register as founding members.

The People's Party hopes to launch their party at a convention in September when they will also elect office bearers and draft the party's constitution.

The idea of a People's Party was created by members of the NGO that's led lobbying of the government to stop the switch to driving on the other side of the road.

The chairman of the party's steering committee Toleafoa Solomona Toailoa says people who supported their PASS petition and those supporting a change of government are likely to sign up.

"I'm quite sure that what we have done through PASS has created a lot of awareness in this country and it has survived in the people the need to be involved in the political process. And we do hope that this time round, with the formation of this party, that we will have sufficient numbers of people stepping up and be counted in the formation of this body, so that we can all contribute together to the welfare of this country."
