Further condemnation of Fiji police methods

7:11 pm on 31 July 2008

The mother of a man who was killed by Fiji police last year has condemned the brutality used to capture an escaped prisoner last week.

The inmate Jo Baleiloa is believed to have received serious head injuries while being re-captured and is still in a critical condition in Suva's Colonial War Memorial Hospital.

The hospital says Baleiloa is in a coma and on life support.

Anisa Naukila, who's the mother of murdered Tevita Malasebe, says such behaviour is inexcusable.

"What they did to my son again happened to the boy. It's the same injury that my son had. From head to toe. I've only seen it on TV but I want to go down to the hospital to see the boy. They haven't learned. I just don't know what's wrong, what's going on."

Two officers received life sentences for Tevita Malasebe's murder.

The killing of Nadi teenager, Sakiusa Rabaka, who was allegedly assaulted by security forces last February, still hasn't been resolved.
