The appeal court in French Polynesia has fined a former government minister, Gilles Tefaatau, 6,500 US dollar and declared him ineligible for office for a year.
It upheld his corruption conviction for hiring his girlfriend within his ministry in 2005 while she was already on the pay roll of the Mahina town administration.
Tefaatau was first sentenced in January in the lead-up to the territorial election when he was a still a minister in the government of Oscar Temaru.
It is not known if Tefaatau will appeal the decision by taking it to a court in France.
