Fiji Labour Party backs People's Charter

1:19 pm on 8 August 2008

The Fiji Labour Party has endorsed the draft People's Charter being pushed by the interim leadership.

The charter is being circulated for consultation and is to presented to the President, Ratu Josefa Iloilo, in October.

The document has been rejected by the ousted SDL party of Laisenia Qarase.

The Methodist Church says it won't convene any meetings to discuss the charter.

Non-government organisations, such as the Pacific Centre for Public Integrity, have spoken out against the role being ascribed to the military whose strength, it says, is ridiculous for Fiji's size.
