Solomons parliament debates no-confidence motion

1:53 pm on 8 August 2008

A debate of a no confidence motion into the Solomon Islands Government is underway and our correspondent says it may take all day.

The motion came after the Opposition leader Manassseh Sogavare accused the Government of failing to deliver on promises when it took power, also after a vote of no confidence, last December.

But the Prime Minister, Dr Derek Sikua, has expressed confidence that he has the suppport of a big majority of MPs.

Meanwhile the Solomon Times newspaper reports that rumors of a demonstration are still rife in the capital.

It says there is tight security around Parliament.
