Three New Caledonian politicians see campaign accounts rejected

The campaign accounts of three unsuccessful New Caledonian candidates in last year's election of a new French assembly have been faulted.

The French accounts office found minor irregularities in the documentation of three anti-independence candidates, Charles Washetine, Louis-Kotra Uregei and Francois-Xavier Apok.

According to the Noumea daily newspaper, in two cases the infractions amounted to the returns being made late.

The three were declared ineligible to be elected for a year - from April this year to April next year.

This means the restrictions will be lifted just ahead of the territorial election next May when a new Congress is to be elected for a five-year term
