Samoa judge wants additional police in Fugalei Market

A Supreme Court judge has called for an additional police post at Samoa's Fugalei Market to combat the rising number of marijuana cases in the area.

Justice Vui Clarence Nelson says the market seems to be the main distributing centre for marijuana in the community.

The judge made his comment during the sentencing of a man who was caught at Fugalei in January with 17 small packets of marijuana leaves.

The judge said it was obvious the marijuana had been pre-packaged for distribution and sale.

He said in view of the increasing number of cases coming from the Fugalei Market perhaps the time had come for more than one police post to patrol the marketplace.
