The American Samoa Representative for Swains' Island, Alexander Jennings, wants action taken over Samoa's turning back of a flight by Inter Island Air last week.

Mr Jennings, who is also a pilot for Inter Island Air, made the call in the House on Friday.

He told local media that American Samoa's right to air commerce as a territory of the United States may have been abridged and the matter should be taken up at the local government and federal government level.

He is of the opinion that a US carrier can only be refused entry if there's a safety issue with the aircraft .

Sources in both Pago Pago and Apia indicate that the Samoa Civil Aviation Authority refused entry to Inter Island because the airline regularly goes over the limit of flights for an on demand charter service.
