An Australian magazine, Waves Surfing Magazine, is encouraging surfers to travel catch some waves in Solomon Islands.

This is the first time the country has been featured in a surf magazine and this could yield siginficant benefits for a tourism industry still recovering from the years of civil unrest.

The Solomon Islands Broadcasting Corporation reports that thirty-thousand copies of a DVD with footage from the Solomons are expected to be distributed.

The Waves team says it was so impressed with the people, culture and surf that it is planning to go back to the Solomons with eight professional surfers next year to get more footage.
