Solomon Islands Chief Justice Sir Albert Palmer has today sentenced former Prime Minister and current Minister for Forests Sir Allan Kemakeza to six months jail.
The Chief Justice sentenced Sir Allan for 18 months in jail but suspended two thirds of the sentence.
This means Sir Allan will lose his parliamentary seat and a by-election in his Savo-Russells constituency.
Sir Allan was initially sentenced by the Magistrate's Court last December for a two months jail term, but the Director of Public Prosecution cross appealed, saying this was inadequate.
The DPP pointed out that the principal offenders had been jailed for up to 30 months.
Sir Allan was convicted of demanding with menaces, intimidation and larceny for authorising militants to raid and seize the vehicles of law firm, Sol-Law Services, while he was Prime Minister in 2002.
