Fiji's leader says his Government will not bend to international pressure over elections

Fiji's interim Prime Minister, Commodore Frank Bainimarama says the Government will not bow to pressure from the international community to call national elections soon.

The Pacnews Agency reports Commodore Bainimarama making the comments while opening a two day summit called 'Rebuilding Confidence and Growing The Economy'

He says Fiji must not bend to the international pressure over elections merely to satisfy other countries.

He says Fiji's self worth and sovereignty and its collectiveness and interest are of paramount importance.

Commodore Bainimarama says deep rooted problems need to be addressed to ensure the mistakes of the past are not repeated.
