Call goes out to stamp out violence in school sports

A call has gone out to members of American Samoa's government to support the Department of Education's athletes programme which began two weeks ago.

The call came from American Samoa's lieutenant governor Faoa Aitofele Sunia to his cabinet after concerns were raised by parents and school officials about the ongoing violence during football games over the past few years.

Earlier this year the American Samoa High School Athletic Association cancelled the schools sports activities, following continued violence between two schools which lasted two days.

Governor Sunia says in order for youth to enjoy a successful programme, support needed to be given to the Department of Education which runs the athletics programmes.
