Doctors increasingly concerned about dengue in Fiji

Fiji's Ministry of Health is being urged to take the dengue epidemic seriously, with more people in Suva becoming infected with the virus.

Fiji Times Online quotes the President of the Fiji College of General Practitioners, Dr Wahid Khan, saying the Ministry should emphasise the need to use mosquito netting to prevent the spread.

He says dengue can only be spread if the infected person is bitten again by mosquitoes which then bite others.

Dr Khan says his assessment of the figures is that Suva has been experiencing an epidemic for the past 3 weeks.

He says the Ministry needs to wake up and take note of the problem.
