American Samoa Governor Togiola Tulafono, has signed into law a bill that increases the civil jurisdicton of the District Court.
The new law allows a District Court judge to issue arrest warrants and increase
the detention time limit for misdemeanor probationers.
The governor says the bill will reduce stresses on the resources of the High Court, eliminate any questions as to the ability of the district court judge to issue arrest warrants, and adequately arm a sentencing court when dealing with misdemeanor
offenders.
