The Honiara High Court has today dismissed an appeal by Solomon Islands MP, Peter Shanel, to have his jail sentence reduced.
The presiding judge, Justice Cameron David, in dismissing the appeal says he does not consider the 9 months of imprisonment of Shanel excessive.
He says Shanel armed himself with a bush knife, concealed it, and in a calculating way when he could achieve the element of suprise, inflicted a severe wound to the victim's face.
Shanel was convicted and sentenced last month by the magistrate's court for assault and causing bodily harm.
