The House of Representatives in American Samoa has unanimously approved a Senate bill that would make Samoan the language of instructions in schools.

The bill states that instruction in all public schools shall be in English or Samoan, but Samoan may be used when necessary to facilitate teaching in English.

The bill calls on the director of education to utilize the Samoan language as the language of instruction where more appropriate to the subject matter.
