American Samoa's Department of Commerce has finalised the program for the Miss South Pacific pageant which the territory will host from October 19th to 26th

A week of activities precedes the actual crowning of Miss South Pacific on October 24th at the Lee Auditorium.

There'll be a float parade, a Sunday church service and toana'i at the Futiga Methodist Church, and several social and cultural outings.

Director Faleseu Eliu Paopao says 10 island countries have confirmed their participation., along with the current Miss South Pacific from Tonga.

Faleseu says the successful hosting of the Pacific Arts festival and attractive cash prizes being offered for the pageant were the main reasons for the positive response from other island nations.

As hosts, American Samoa has to provide accommodation and meals for the contestants and their chaperones, and cover all expenses for the week long programme, including the actual contest itself.

The local business community is being asked to help defray costs or contribute prizes.
