An academic says Fiji's interim Prime Minister, Commodore Frank Bainimarama, may be making a strategic move in taking over the interim foreign affairs portfolio.
Ratu Epeli Nailatikau has moved to be the interim Minister of Indigenous Affairs.
Commodore Bainimarama is now not only the interim Prime Minister, head of the military and interim Finance Minister, but also the interim Foreign Minister.
Dr Steve Ratuva, from the University of the South Pacific, says with current difficult relations with a number other nations, it's possible the interim Prime Minister wants to handle things himself:
"By grabbing hold of the position of Minister of Foreign Affairs, it's a very powerful a very significant position. Especially now in terms of the politics of the Forum and the geopolitics within the region, Australia and New Zealand."
