Pacific Islands Forum economic ministers to discuss bulk purchasing of fuel

3:05 pm on 21 October 2008

A decision on the bulk purchasing of fuel for the Pacific is expected to be made at the Forum Economic Ministers Meeting in Vanuatu next week.

The Pacnews agency reports the Forum Secretary General, Tuiloma Neroni Slade, as saying the exorbitant fuel prices experienced worldwide and in the region have prompted the Forum leaders to prioritise the issue.

Mr Slade says Forum leaders put a high priority on this issue in the Niue Communiqué.

He says the results of a technical experts meeting in Auckland last week will go before the ministers.

He says there have positive developments and he hopes a decision will be reached soon to cushion the high fuel prices faced by member countries.
