The police in Samoa have recovered some of the more than 200,000 US dollars stolen from the office of the Samoa National Provident Fund last Monday.

At least 30 thousand US dollars has been returned to the police by family members of a 45 year old man arrested and charged with theft relating to the stolen money.

A second man who is a driver for the SNPF pensioner's scheme payout team was arrested on Savaii island.

Assistant police commissioner, Papalii Li'o, says both accused are ex-convicts who knew each other in prison when they were serving jail sentences for other crimes.

There is a possibility of another arrest as police are still investigating the case.
