More unexploded World War II bombs are being unearthed in the Northern Marianas.

According to John Scott, the explosive response team trainer and adviser for the Department of Public Safety, the average detonation frequency is about three to five times a year.

Mr Scott says they have to let the unexploded ordnances accumulate before asking the U.S. Navy to detonate the munitions.

He says in the past years, over a thousand bombs have been unearthed.

Saipan's last detonation operation was in December 2007.
