Teachers at Papua New Guinea's Government-run schools will see a 14.1 per cent salary increase during the next three years with the first part to be paid at the end of this year.

The Post Courier reports that this has been revealed by the PNG Teachers Association president Tommy Hecko after three weeks of negotiations with the PNG Teaching Services Commission, the Department of Personnel Management and the Treasury Department.

Mr Hecko says despite the financial crisis looming worldwide, it is important to secure pay increases for the teachers.
