Political forum futile but only option, says Fiji's SDL party

Fiji's ousted SDL Party says this week's political forum was a waste of time, but it's the only option for political parties to bring their ideas to the table.

Earlier this week, the SDL leader Laisenia Qarase described the meeting, hosted by the interim Prime Minister, as a positive development which was conducive for the future.

But the party's National director, Peceli Kinivuwai, says they felt positive that the meeting started the ball rolling, but not that it will achieve the desired purpose.

"There's a lot of dilly dallying on the part of the interim [government]. For a matter of national importance, we've been given another 5 weeks to come up with submissions. And that five weeks will take us to the first week of December. And also we thought that we were going to be talking about terms of reference, but no."

Peceli Kinivuwai says the SDL party will continue to be involved, because it was their own inititative.
