RAMSI kills crocodiles after fatal attack

11 crocodiles have been destroyed in Solomon Islands by members of the Regional Assistance Mission and the Participating Police Force.

They were sent in response to requests for assistance following the death of a young girl who was killed by a crocodile earlier last week.

They also helped local police to deal with crocodiles in Malaita and Central Islands Provinces.

Crocodiles were classified as endangered in Solomon Islands because they had been extensively hunted for their skins.

But a population increase is seeing more crocodiles move closer to areas where villagers fish and hunt, posing a serious threat.
