Concerns about new roads in new Fiji subdivisions

9:27 am on 14 November 2008

The Fiji Local Government Association is concerned that it is forced to make some roads in small subdivisions too wide.

The secretary for the Association, Azmat Khan, says residential roads and highways are the appropriate width but some of the roads in small subdivisions are unnecessarily very wide and it is a concern for the councils.

He says this extra space then gets used for storage or parking when that is not what should be happening.

Mr Khan says unless they are very large residential subdivisions, the roads should be just wide enough to cater for vehicles.
