Gas prices to fall in American Samoa

11:36 am on 17 November 2008

Motorists in American Samoa will soon see a drastic drop in gasoline prices after the release over the weekend of the new maximum allowable price, or wholesale price, for gasoline and other petroleum products.

Sione Kava, of the government's Office of Petroleum Management says the new price index for gasoline will see a drop by 55 cents per gallon.

The current average retail price is around $3.66 per gallon but the new average is expected to be $3.11 per gallon.

Mr Kava said the drop in gasoline is due to the continued decrease in oil prices.
