Consumer Council of Fiji country is still lagging behind

11:47 am on 18 November 2008

The Consumer Council of Fiji's chief executive, Premila Kumar, says despite all the sacrifices made by Fiji citizens in the last 20 years, their economic progress is still lagging behind in terms of social development and supporting infrastructure

Mrs Kumar told the Fiji Times that the 2009 budget should lay the groundwork to increase public investments that will create employment, develop infrastructure and boost confidence to attract foreign investment.

She says Fiji must work towards progressing the economy by reducing imports and increasing exports.

Some radical changes are required to create more wealth for our people, deliver more efficient, effective and affordable public services and provide better lives for all amidst the growing global phenomena.

The 2009 budget will be presented next Friday by the Interim Finance Minister and Prime Minister Commodore Frank Bainimarama.
