Vanuatu government again faces no confidence challenge

4:20 pm on 19 November 2008

Thirteen members of the Vanuatu parliament have filed a motion of no-confidence against the prime minister, Edward Natapei.

The third motion since the election of Mr Natapei two months ago, it's believed to have been lodged by a group including disgruntled backbenchers of the new government.

The Office of the Speaker says the opposition is also still arguing that the election of the prime minister was undemocratic and dishonest.

Meanwhile, President Kalkot Mataskelekele is urging all Members of Parliament to be responsible for the needs of their people.

He has urged MP's to use their best ability, efforts and initiative to help improve rural livelihood by responding positively to the different needs requested.
